Los Alamos County has only two communities in the entire county…really! They are the communities of White Rock and Los Alamos. The towns are only 10 miles apart, and they share a single middle school and high school. There are three wards in the county—two in Los Alamos (Pajarito Ward and Los Alamos Ward) and one in White Rock (yep, White Rock Ward). There are two chapels, one in White Rock and one in Los Alamos.
The members love to do things together, AND they love to host the YSAs attending the Winter Conference. One of the sweetest and homiest parts of conference is the chance for the YSAs to stay with host families from Los Alamos or White Rock. When you register for conference, you will be matched with a host family. Your host family will take you in for both nights of the conference, and feed you a tummy-filling breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings, before sending you back to the fun and excitement of conference. Allergies? Vegan? Picky eater? No problem! Just make a note of any needs regarding food when you register.
A survey of a large number of last year’s participants told us that staying with members at conference was a fun and rewarding experience—an extra that enriched their conference experience. But if you think you would rather stay at a local hotel, you are welcome to make your own reservations. Of course, the cost of staying elsewhere than with a host family is an out-of-your-own-pocket expense. .
